Re: HOUSING

Perry, Was just looking at the "HAV-IT" T series housing, again. How can we direct peoples attention to the web address you gave above? Are there plans to have these on display/for sale at any upcoming events? Id bet anyone looking to start hosting Purple Martins or add-to an existing site...

Re: Control of heat and cold for housing

Sounds like all good info. especially for someone getting that all so vulnerable 1st pair! Thanks for the Heads-up about info. available from the PMCA. Have done some research there, about the owl tragedy's, especially in places like Florida, where the infamous barred owl is a huge problem! Along wi...

Re: MAYDAY, MAYDAY!

I only brought up earthworms, because I try to keep these on hand for bait. So might it be beneficial to add a feed tray to my new housing for 2014 and offer worms along with scrambled eggs, to 1st time PM, that may arrive well ahead of their food supply? Your idea on the feed tray, to avoid the com...

Re: Control of heat and cold for housing

Am looking for options in the way I offer compartments for the 2014 arrival, including foam liners for early birds and even for temp. control for nestlings. Will keep your canopy idea in mind, especially if it starts getting "Birdy" around here! Am definitely concerned about Arial predation!

Re: MAYDAY! MAYDAY!

Perry, I'm hoping those birds were just visitors. Lets hope for improved temps. for 2014 PM. arrival. Thanks for the heads-up on "mudding". My housing was wearing a gob at the entrances, this past summer and I also added mud internal and on the porches of some compartments, as I was loweri...

Re: Welcome to the Purple Martin Forum!

Hello DAVE, Some of us don't admit the obsession thing. Sounds like either hi-tech or a lot of housing. What does it include? Do you up-grade primarily alum. housing? or all types. Do you feel your plate near runneth over, with all that you have taken on? I agree, the more we can share our info. and...

Re: Control of heat and cold for housing

Dave, Up in the northern tier, cool is the norm, /w heat being the exception. With that being said, wood housing /w it's insulating property's, seems logical. What would you think about an insulated attic and foam floors to help balance internal temp.? The canopy idea sounds like a Multi-Peril insur...

MAYDAY, MAYDAY!

HELLO, Following my introduction to PUMA at a workshop, in spring 2013. And having lowered, cleaned and loaded the house compartments with some cedar chips and pine straw. I raised the house to the up position, assuming it was ready. On the 4th day following the workshop, in fact it was May 1st (MAY...
