I believe there are at least four PMs here now. Wes was watching them at the window and saw three fly off while one was still sitting in Gourd 3. One flew north, one east, and one south. He said one was an ASY male.
Maybe they're sharing info on any insects they may find.

First arrivals in Larimore, ND. Two ASY females
It's Purple Martin Time in Larimore. I arrived home about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 24. I was unloading groceries on the front deck; Wes was taking them from the deck into the kitchen. He looked up and said " There's 'a bird' in Gourd 1 ." Yes indeed; there was a beautiful female Purple ...

Re: Martins move north is early this year. Iowa ahead schedu
My birds, in Larimore, ND, usually arrive around April 23. My earliest season started on April 14, and they have been as late as May 7 for arriving. We hang the gourds on April 15. A couple years ago Wes had to shovel snow away from the rack so we could get to it. Another year he was mowing grass wh...

Allen, where are you located? I hope you're nearby, since that would mean my birds will be zooming in soon.

Re: Welcome to the Purple Martin Forum!
Oh my, Dave; I jump through hoops to keep up with my 15 gourds and their occupants. My pole has 16 arms, but I have to leave one empty so as I crank down the winch the 16th gourd doesn't bang my gourd. It's a few days early here, and I hope the PMs don't show up until it's a bit warmer, but I will a...

Ready and waiting, and waiting, in Larimore
Our 15 gourds are filled with pre-nests and hung. Wes and I helped a neighbor hang three gourds under his PM house. I have one more "newbie" to help get set up. We are ready and waiting in Larimore. The "average" date for my Purple Martins to return is April 23. I try to always h...

Is there a willing Mentor in the Bismarck, ND area?
My neighbor's sister-in-law has seen my Purple Martin pole system, gourds, and birds. She wants Purple Martins at her home, too. So does two of her neighbors! These women want to be serious PM landlords. She already kills house sparrows and starlings, and traps raccoons. She loves all her native bir...

Mr. G's first martin of the season, too.
I've been helping an older man set up his gourds and care for his martins. I had to be at his place at 8 a.m. to help him get his gourds hung and everything ready. I no more than got back home when he called and said "I have a martin on the electric line!" This was so worth dragging myself...
