Martins move north is early this year. Iowa ahead schedule.

Get ready early to the Dakota landlords. Here in Iowa and a little further south the migration push north appears to be one of the earliest on record. Re: PLIGHT OF PURPLE MARTINS

Last summer our organization dismantled a large run down wooden martin house and relocated it close by to a new member interested in martins. The old residence just left it and the new owners didn't want it, so we rescued the structure, rebuilt expanded room size and raised it to it's glory days.

Currently I'm working on a raise 4' X 4' raised platform robin / starling proof combo feeding shelter and warm box for the early arrivals. Thanks for the great idea of checking out degraded pm houses over the winter months, excellent way to help the martins and pass the time.
I will make a note to our members in Iowa to check out the Purple Martin Association of the Dakotas. Thanks Jerome

Winter months website slow down. Visiting other martin websi

I have noticed over the years that purple martin websites across the US almost come to a stand still during the winter months. Hopefully, it indicates that all the purple martin landlords are busy doing repairs and upgrades of their martin houses during the winter months. This website is much like o...

Re: 2015 statistics

Hi Allen, Average of 5 eggs per nest is good. Sorry to here about the hawk attacks. I have hawks in my area so I position dove decoys away from my colony in hopes that the hawk will hit those first. I had 54 pair with 302 eggs and 290 fledged. Keep up the great work and I hope that the numbers incre...
