Martins seem to be on schedule. We will have to wait a few months before Iowa and the Dakotas. I try to order my cricket and mealworm supplemental feed prior to their arrival. Best of luck to everyone this coming season.

There are about 70 to 100 days to get your Purple Martin housing ready for the arrival in the Dakotas.

PUMA HAVE REACHED THE SOUTH TIP OF IOWA, SO WEATHER PERMITING MAY
BE HERE SOON! :o

PERRY,

WITH THE ABOVE IN MIND, WOULD THIS BE A GOOD TIME FOR SOME "PUBLIC AWARNESS"
TOWARD THE PM HOUSING SITUATION IN OUR AREAS?

HOW BOUT A "WANTED POSTER" WITH A COLORED PIC OF AN SY MARTIN IN FLIGHT.

WITH A CAPTION SAYING; HELLO, I'M A PURPLE MARTIN YEARLING, BORN HERE AND
I JUST RETURNED FROM BRAZIL, WHERE I SPENT THE WINTER. MOM AND POP TOLD
ME TO LOOK FOR SAFE, COMFORTABE HOUSING, LOCATED IN AN OPEN AREA OF YOUR
YARD, TO START A NEW FAMILY.

THESE COULD BE HUNG IN VARIOUS BUSINESSES AND EVEN POP UP IN A COUPLE LOCAL
NEWSPAPERS.

COULD INCLUDE WEB ADD. FOR PMOTD, NOTE ABOUT "MARTIN FEST", EVEN EMAIL ADD.
OR PH. NO. FOR AREA LANDLORDS, TO VISIT PROPER SITES AND GATHER INFO. ON PM.

YOUR THOUGHTS?

Sorry on the slow responses. My dad passed away on April 28th and the IPMO has kept me busy. I currently have around 50 to 75 martins right now. The SY are arriving late this year and the PMCA has let us know to expect late arrivals of the SYs. Harsh winter and migration is slow.

Thank you for the condolences. I use a variety of martin housing, which includes: Highly modified extended depth compartments in a quad pod arrangement, super gourds with modified 4 inch wide PVC tunnels with 6 inch length, Troyer horizontal gourds with Conley 2 entrance and anti wing entrapments. In all, I have 72 compartments utilizing custom made gourd racks. The martins first choose the modified trios with deep compartments, followed by the Troyer gourds.

Can almost feel the Draw!

That Special Mod housing you offer must be like a large Magnet!

Interesting to here the PM chose the mod. Trio first.

My first house is a 30 yr. old Trio /w 12/6 mod. /w cresents /w wing protection /w wood floor inserts
in and out, including pre-nest and mud. Was visited by a pair of PM in 2013. circled by 1 this spring.

May Mother bring you good weather and "Top O The Fledge" to you and yours in IOWA :)
