The 2020 season

Post by Dave Duit »

Early arrivals in Spring and late migration in September in Iowa. It was a great year for the martin population as a whole across the US. I increased my colony by 5 more nests than last year. I also had a whopping 285 fledge successfully. No mite and only 2 adult deaths due to age, I'm guessing. Hopefully all went well up north in the Dakotas for all the landlords.
Nest checks, supplement feeding and good landlord practices make for a healthy colony.

First arrival here on April 29, was an ASY-m, three days earlier than 2019. Temps were cool, so early arrivals were Sharing Compartments n seeing that, i plugged the vents!
Pair count increased by 4 at home site, Fledges by 25!
Delt with some blo fly, as usual, but all in all a good Season, with 4 Wannabes in area being Found!🙂
